Diagnostics Imaging and Tests

At NL Health Services, we use a wide variety of diagnostic tools to diagnose various conditions that affect the heart. Many of these conditions are complex and not easy to diagnose. Some of the tests can be completed in hospitals close to your home, and some may require you to travel to another hospital. Diagnostic tools and tests include: 

Ambulatory Monitoring 

• 24-Hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring 

• ambulatory ECG monitoring (Holter) 

• ambulatory ECG monitor (LOOP) 

Cardiac CT/Non-Invasive Angiography 

• CT coronary angiography 

• coronary calcium score 

• pulmonary vein and left atrium study 

Cardiac Structure and/or Function Assessment 

• echocardiography (colour Doppler) 

• transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) 

• ventricular function and volume scan (MUGA/radionuclide blood pool imaging) 

• cardiac MRI (anatomy and function) 

Stress Testing 

• cardiopulmonary exercise test

• exercise treadmill stress test 

• stress SPECT myocardial perfusion and function (exercise or persantine) 

• stress PET myocardial perfusion and function (persantine or dobutamine) 

• stress echocardiography (exercise or dobutamine) 

Viability/Tissue Characterization 

• cardiac MRI (viability, cardiomyopathy) 

• cardiac PET (viability, sarcoidosis)
