Coronary Care Unit (CCU)
The Coronary Care Unit is located at the Health Sciences Centre and provided specialized medical care to adults with:
- acute coronary syndrome
- congestive heart failure andÂ
- unstable cardiac arrhythmias.Â
We also provide cardiac telemetry monitoring to patients who require cardiac monitoring. Cardiac telemetry monitoring allows health-care teams to monitor heart activity and create appropriate care plans for patients throughout the Health Sciences Centre who require this support.
The coronary care unit coordinates with other departments (intensive care unit, cardiovascular intensive care unit, cardiac catheterization lab, and emergency departments) as well as other inpatient units and acute care hospitals across the province.
The CCU team consists of:Â
- nurses,
- respiratory therapists,Â
- physicians, and
- members from pastoral care.
We consult with:Â
- physiotherapists
- occupational therapists
- registered dietitians
- speech language pathologists
- pharmacists
- and social workers.Â
